“Palo Duro Stop”

Exterior of motel is not inviting. Exterior appeared to have been recently painted but parking lot is in need of resurfacing. Swimming pool is out of order. I asked to see room before purchasing nights stay. When I opened the door, the room smelled and looked clean with the exception of a few small stains on carpet. Sufficient for one nights stay. After settling into room and engaging heater, the room started to smell like cigarette smoke. I lifted the front cover on the combination heater/ac unit and found a clogged filter which appeared not to have been cleaned in months. I reported this to owner the next morning suggesting that regular cleaning of filters would help the freshness ot the room. Room attendant took filter and tapped against a post to clean and then replaced it in the unit. This was not sufficient. Filter needed to be cleaned with soap and water. Continental breakfast was very limited: 3 choices of cold cereal, toast with peanut butter or jelly, coffee, and orange flavored drink. Room was away from highway and was quiet.
